Public Hearing on LD 1619

  • Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine (map)

The Governor's bill (LD 1619), which updates our state's reproductive privacy act, and several other proactive bills will have a public hearing on Monday, May 1st at the statehouse in Augusta. We need to show up in large numbers that day to communicate our support for progressive abortion laws that meet the needs of abortion seekers in the post-Dobbs reality in which we currently live. If you have interest in attending the hearing--on Zoom or in person--please fill out this form so we can help coordinate logistics for the day-of!

If you have questions or want more information about LD 1205 -- which GRR! opposes -- you can

1) check out the resources compiled by the Maine Association of Certified Professional Midwives (MACPM),

2) Contact cait.v@grrnow.org to set up a chat or

3) Reach out to Morgan Miller of Soft Corner Midwifery, who is also the chair of MACPM.

ACTION ITEM FOR THIS WEEK: More than 50% of BOTH chambers co-sponsored LD 1619! This is a big public step in supporting full abortion access in Maine, so please send an email to your representatives & Senators who are co-sponsoring & thank them for their support. Let them know Mainers have their backs & stand with them. You can check if your lawmakers are co-sponsors here.
